Queenstown Shotover Jet Boat

Went for the Shotover jet boat ride at Shotover Canyon and it was fun & exciting in the midst of nice sceneries......

En route to Queenstown

Peanuts

I always call them peanuts cuz they really look like peanuts from afar!

Was shopping in SG yesterday n was terribly squeezed in the crowds... it's really shoulder-to-shoulder, shoulder-to-armpit & armpit-to-head...... we r worse than NZ sheep.

Hogwartz?

Our accommodation at Dunedin is a hostel named Hogwartz.... a Catholic Bishop’s residence for over 130 years before it was sold and turned into a hostel. I find it pretty nice and spacious with the nicest modern toilets but some find it eerie. It's surrounded by mature trees & bushes so can't get a good photo of this historic building.

Dunedin Railway Station

The Flemish style Dunedin Railway Station was opened in 1906, the most pretty building I c in Dunedin....

The multi-coloured statice flowers in the gardens r simply lovely....... the purple ones r those commonly used in flower bouquets.

Dunedin

With the swarm of Scottish settlers in 1800s, it is no wonder to find many historic Victorian and Edwardian buildings in Dunedin. Gold was also discovered in mid-1800s which led Dunedin to b one of major cities in south island.

Other than the steepest street in the world (Baldwin Street as above), almost ALL Dunedin streets r steep, only a few degrees lesser than Baldwin Street.

Moeraki Boulders

Despite a friend's discouragement, we still went to c the Moeraki Boulders..... after all, it's en route to Dunedin....... From internet, there seems to b some scientific explanation on its formation but I m not too keen abt it, they look more mystical to me......

Think they r searching for sea shells or mussels......

Oamaru

As the early settlers r Europeans, most historical buildings have a strong influence from there....

The accommodation hosts r sure creative to get kids to bathe.

One main attraction at Oamaru r the blue & yellow penguins colonies which waddle back to Oamaru shores every evening. Well, we have seen cute waddling penguins before at Australia so we gave this a miss.

Akaroa

Had a quick stop at Akaroa, a peninsula near Christchurch and a historic French & British settlement nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano. Main activities there r sea sports and swimming with dolphins.

At almost every big or small town, there's a war memorial........

Christchurch Cathedral

The famous Christchurch Cathedral, pity I din spent enough time there..... I prefer the smaller Nelson Cathedral actually......

More on Christchurch

The famous tram rides around Christchurch city, there are night trams with dinner on board.....

This motel looks historic alright..... any takers?

A many-stars hotel at Cathedral Square....

Christchurch Post Office at Cathedral Square

70+ years old buildings along New Regent Street, in Spanish Mission architectural style..... somehow reminds me of chinatown shophouses.......

En route back to Christchurch

Can c so many different landscapes during bus trips, can't help taking photos.......

This is some river near Christchurch which guide said it's coldest in the south island. Could c handful of pple going for a dip.
